CWG Writers Pick Up Eleven National Magazine Award Nominations

National Magazine Award nominations were announced on May 4th for the 2014 awards. Congratulations to the CWG writers who received nominations in this year’s awards.

Nominees included Andrew Braithwaite and Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall who led the pack with three nominations and two nominations respectively. Braithwaite was nominated under the Service: Lifestyle and Travel categories for his work with enRoute magazine. Bishop-Stall was nominated under the Columns and Humour categories for his work in Sharp magazine.

Other CWG writers each received a nomination in the following categories: Lynn Coady for Arts & Entertainment, Sara Angel for Arts & Entertainment, Alec Scott for Business, and Chris Turner for Science, Techonology and the Environment.

For their story “Fire and Ice,” Zoomer magazine had approached CWG looking for a writer. Through CWG, Zoomer commissioned Alex Roslin for the now NMA nominated story about a tragic fire at a seniors’ home in Quebec. Similarly, in 2012, Sharp magazine approached CWG in search of a new columnist. Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall was a perfect fit to pen the magazine’s new fatherhood column, and now both are nominated in this year’s awards.

The full list of nominees can be found here.

The winners will be announced at an awards gala in Toronto on June 5, 2015.
